Editorial Review for The Grassmere Inn Hotel – by Gayot.com
The Scene
This cheery white house is just 75 miles from Manhattan, making it convenient for weekend getaways. It boasts the distinction of being Long Island's biggest bed-and-breakfast, and with 36 rooms, it does offer a less claustrophobic experience than your typical B&B. Guests can walk to the Performing Arts Center and the beach.
The Details
Like the house, the guest rooms are light and cheery, done up with white wainscoting, simple furnishings and pastel quilts. There is one suite with a living room and kitchen area. Both private and shared bathrooms are available. A playground and miniature putting green provide entertainment for the kids, while adults can make use of the bocce court. There is a grill on the property for guest use, and a cocktail hour during which sangria and margaritas are offered on Saturdays during the summer.

If you like tennis, easy access to all the Hamptons has to offer, then you are going to love it here. Tennis lessons and clinics are top notch. We traveled with a group that included non-tennis players. There was plenty for everyone to do with shopping, beautiful beaches, a performing arts center and a spa all within walking distance. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and quiet. The decor was so quaint with pastel quilts and pretty woodwork . Peter, his staff and the fellow guests are so warm and friendly. Solo travelers would do well here. It is as relaxing or as active as you want it to be.
Pros: Warm friendly staff, excellent service, close to beach, shopping and dining. Great tennis.
Cons: If you want to be anonymous or stay at a large hotel this is not for you.

this is a terrible bed and breakfast. pretty much everything they try to do is based around giving the lowest quality service to the customer at an outrageously high price. for example when you arrive they ask you to please take very short showers to save water. they also tell you they won't wash towels each day or give you clean towels, so please don't expect it. they claim this is to save the environment. they tell you they provide many things (for example beach towels, portable heaters for the rooms that don't have heat, etc.) then when you go to the front desk to ask for them they tell you they are out of them all of a sudden. if you need a cot there is a $40/night cot fee. i would not have been surprised if they had tried to charge us per square of toilet paper! on the wall of your room is a threatening letter that says if you try to steal a quilt, towel, wash cloth, etc, they will charge your account. first of all who steals quilts, towels, wash cloths from bed and breakfasts? no one is that sleazy - give me a break. but the hilarious part is the quilts are old beat up moth ridden quilts and they say they will charge you $150 if it is taken from the room. the soap and shampoo is cheap liquid soap and they say if you take the "designer" soap/shampoo set you will be charged $50! honestly its laughable and a little bizarre. they have a bunch of old rusted out cars/trucks behind the house. is this westhampton or west virginia? the whole bed and breakfast is just incredibly cheap and sleazy in every way but it is very expensive.
